Welbourne, Maxine F.
Maxine F. Welbourne, 89, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 23, 2012, due to complications of muscular dystrophy. Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Saturday until service time. According to her wishes, her body was cremated. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, at a later date.
Maxine was born to William Guy and Gladys (Haifley) Bruce on Sept. 6, 1922 in Nebraska. They moved to Iowa when she was young. She graduated from Wilson High School. Maxine worked a short time at Linkbelt Speeder and Bishops Buffet down town. She was a Nurses Aid during World War II. Maxine worked for Cryovac/Sealed Air for 35 years until retiring in 1986. In 1944, she met the love of her life, Douglas C. Welbourne. They were married Dec. 31, 1944.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas; a daughter, Susie (Jack) Lindstrom of Ely; grandchildren, Mike Lindstrom of Marion, Tina (Mike) White of Cedar Rapids, Andy (Kristi) Welbourne of Cedar Rapids, and Casey (Pamela) Welbourne of Alabama; 10 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Danielle, Bayley, Logan, Grace, Tyler, Colten, Elly, Abel and Dash; sister, Pat (Del) Smith; two sisters-in-law, Kate Bruce and Helen Bruce; many nieces and nephews; and many life long friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Gladys Bruce; her son, Scott Welbourne, daughter-in-law, Rose Welbourne; brothers, Wayne and Jack Bruce.
A special thanks to Northbrook Manor and St. Luke's Hospice staff for your great care of Maxine.
Memorials can be made in Maxine's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
