Rohret, Karen Josephine Fountain
Karen Josephine Fountain Rohret, 70, of Iowa City, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 at home surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove, with Reverend Edmond Dunn officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Cosgrove. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or The Karen Rohret Memorial Fund.

Karen was born Sept. 9, 1939 in Hills, the daughter of Ralph and Francis (Draker) Fountain. Graduating from Iowa City High School, she married Dean Rohret on Jan. 17, 1959 in Hills. Karen worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City for 22 years, retiring in 1999.
Karen was a past member of the Johnson County Board of Health, past regent of the Catholic Daughter's of the Americas's and past member of St. Patrick's Altar & Rosary Society. She was devoted to St. Patrick's Perpetual Adoration Chapel for over 10 years. Currently, she was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Iowa City Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband Dean; children, Robert (Donna) Rohret of Solon, Dori (Tim) Slager of Iowa City, Lori (Bruce) Hudson of Iowa City, Rose (Pat Mahoney) Rohret of Oxford,
Marianne (Greg) Couser of Rochester, Minn., Rick (Leslie) Rohret of Bettendorf, Ron (Jennifer) Rohret of Solon; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Worley of Iowa City, Norma (Leonard) Murphy of Hills; a brother Ralph (Pat) Fountain of Iowa City; brother-in-law, Gene Bell of Marion and sister-in-law, Margaret (Kenny) Finken of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
Karen was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Never meeting a stranger, she was a good friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law Jim Worley and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Bell.
