Boots, Scott Arthur
Scott Arthur Boots, 51, of Vinton, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. A Celebration of Scott's life will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 11, at the U.S. Bank Building, 414 A Ave., Vinton. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Following the service, family will receive friends until 7 p.m. His body has been cremated, and graveside committal services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg at a later date.
Scott was born March 27, 1961, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Herbert E. and Sandra L. (Comried) Boots. He was raised in Atkins and the family eventually moved to Shellsburg. Scott graduated from Shellsburg High School. During his high school years, Scott wrote a play, which he later had copyrighted.
Scott was united in marriage with Jo McClintock, and the couple later divorced.
Scott proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the battleship U.S.S. O'Bannon during the Gulf War. He received high honors from the President of the United States for fixing the ship's computers while under fire. Following his military service, Scott was forced into retirement due to health concerns. He was a member of the Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post 166 in Shellsburg.
Scott attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton. He enjoyed NASCAR and collecting wooden ducks, robots and UFOs. He was a proud father and loved his children very much.
Scott is survived by his parents, Herb and Sandra Boots of Vinton; one son, Michael (Amanda) Boots of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Jenna Coburn-Boots of Iowa City; one brother, Russell (Marlene) Boots of Garrison; three sisters, Lynn (Lewis) Yoch, Debra Boots and Lorraine Ament, all of Vinton; and one grandson, Michael Noah Boots II of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and one brother, Kevin, in 1983.
A memorial fund has been established.
