Michael Lee Meyer, 58, of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away unexpectedly from a heart condition in his home on April 14, 2016.
He was born Feb. 20, 1958, in Cedar Rapids. Mike attended Center Point High School, where he was an exceptional athlete. He attended Upper Iowa and Mount Mercy colleges, but found real happiness on the golf course as a teaching professional at Elmcrest Country Club before moving to Kansas City and later, Las Vegas. At the time of his death, he was self-employed.
Mike is survived by his parents, Bob and Karen (Sawyer) Meyer of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Diane Meyer of Cedar Rapids and Doug Meyer (Steve Micke) of Portland, Ore.; his wife, Jila of Las Vegas; children, Andrea Meyer of Marion, Lauren Meyer of Garland, Texas, and Bobby Meyer of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Keira, Addison, Jack and Alice; nieces, Abby and Amanda; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Milly Sawyer and Sonny and Theo Meyer, all of Clarence.
A Celebration of Life service and luncheon will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home on Wilson Avenue in Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. until the start of the service at 11 a.m. Bob and Karen also will greet friends at their home after a luncheon at Murdoch's immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
