Bowers, Genevieve Lulu
Genevieve Lulu Bowers, 94, a resident of Irving Point Assisted Living Center, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Rowley, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the funeral home. Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Winthrop.
Survivors include her children, Harlan Wilson of Nuevo, Calif., Robert (Dorothy) Wilson of Palo, Zelda Wilson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Terry (Doreen) Wilson of Carlisle; grandchildren, Mike Wilson, Mark Wilson, Lanita Lovelace, Diana Hobson, Tammy Wilson, Robyn Stewart, Beverly Carpenter, Dennis Hobson, Scott Hobson, Mike Fisher, Marci Jackson, Michelle Bowles, Heather Sexton and Bryan Sexton; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Keith Washburn of Alburnett.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Wilson; son, Gerald Wilson; and siblings, Edwin Washburn, Everett Washburn, Maxine Beaman, Margaret Caldbeck and Kenneth Washburn.
Born June 23, 1918, in Ryan, Iowa, Genevieve was the daughter of Gay and Elizabeth (Jordan) Washburn. In May 1937, Genevieve was united in marriage to George Wilson. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital as a kitchen supervisor.
Genevieve loved her family and family gatherings. She loved to cook and bake, especially for her family, and was known for her rolls and chocolate chip cookies. Gardening and playing bingo and cards were other joys.
