Kenneth Henry Kiburz, 89, of Marion, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 3, 2016. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at the funeral home. Private family graveside services will take place.
Ken is survived by his sons, Brad Kiburz of Hiawatha and Brian (Cathi) Kiburz of Marion; 10 grandchildren, Matt, Cole, Calvin, Stephen, Niki, Alec, Sam, Tim, Josh and Patches; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Sheryl Roberts of Marion, Sylvia Kiburz of Bedford and Georgia Holguin of Silver City, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet; his daughter, Bernee Kiburz Gonderman; his brother, Bill; and his sister, Anna Linda Ganzer, and her husband, Roland.
Ken was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Frank and Thelma (Welch) Kiburz. He graduated from Monticello High School and the University of Dubuque. Ken then enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean conflict. He married Janet Dale on Oct. 30, 1953, in Monticello. Ken was employed at AT&T with over 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Marion Athletic Booster Club and Hy-Vee Breakfast Club. Ken played football for Monticello High School, University of Dubuque, U.S. Army and completed his playing career as a member of the Chicago Bears.
A memorial fund has been established in Ken's memory.
