Ruth Kendall, 98, longtime resident of Maquoketa, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at
the Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Funeral Mass will take place following the visitation at 11 a.m., also at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Maquoketa.
Ruth Elizabeth was born June 9, 1916, in Maquoketa to parents Peter and Caroline (Altfillisch) Hoffmann. She was united in marriage to Haven Kendall on Oct. 15, 1940, at the Sacred Heart parsonage.
Ruth worked at Hoffman Grocery and Kendall Menswear in her earlier years in Maquoketa.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed card clubs, visiting her local library and reading.
She is survived by her children, Mary Jean Hupp of The Woodlands, Texas, and Rich (Carol) Kendall of Marion; four grand-children, Amy (Troy) Tice, Katie (Tyler) Sturtz, Jacob (Jessica) Kendall and Amanda Hupp; and six great-grandchildren, Avery, Haven, Kendall, Cody, Hayden and Harper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters, Armella Snyder and Margorie Hamblin.
Memorials may be made in her memory to Mercy Hospice.
