Tama man dies following Highway 30 collision

A Tama man died after he was trying to cross Highway 30 and was struck by an eastbound vehicle.
The collision occurred around 7:51 p.m., according to the Iowa State Patrol. Randolph Papakee Jr., 41, and an unnamed female were crossing Highway 30 near the Meskwaki Travel Plaza. The female made it across, but Papakee was struck by the vehicle, driven by Bryan Sorensen, 37, of Toledo.
Papakee was transported to a hospital in Marshalltown, where he later died of his injuries.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Meskwaki police department, Tama County sheriff's office and Tama fire & ambulance, according to the release.
