Stastny, Edna Elizabeth
Edna Elizabeth Stastny, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 4 p.m. vigil.
Edna was born June 23, 1914, in Walford, the daughter of William and Annie (Stritesky) Rotter. She married Charles Stastny on April 6, 1940, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Walford. Edna enjoyed all little children.
She also found comfort in gardening, baking lemon pies, traveling and visiting with her family. She was a member of the Eagles, St. Wenceslaus and St. Bridgets Circle for many years.
Edna is survived by her children, Ken (Diane) Stastny of Cedar Rapids and Diane (Gary) Brown of Swisher; six grandchildren, Jim (Yvonne) Stastny, Dan (Stacy) Stastny, Dawn Stastny (Curtis Belden), Jim (Dawn) Brown, Bill (Dena) Brown and Nick (Kelli) Brown; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; an infant grandson, Jeffery; two brothers, Ben and Bill; an infant brother, Willie; and four sisters, Sadie Erger, Grace Broz, Mary Schluter and Blanch Schmuecker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
