Dolores M. Schmidt, 92, of Dyersville, formerly of Earlville, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at
Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Saturday, Jan. 2, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jeffery Dole will officiate and Deacon Jim Schmidt will
assist.
Dolores was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Worthington, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Rolfes) Heims. She married Wilmer C. Schmidt on Sept. 12, 1950, in Worthington, Iowa. Together they farmed near Bernard and Hopkinton, finally settling near Earlville until retiring in Dyersville in 1989.
She was a very giving person who loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed gardening, especially growing strawberries and flowers, crocheting and quilting. Through these activities she taught her family a strong work ethic, love, compassion and empathy.
She will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, her giving ways and a good game of
euchre.
Survivors include seven children,
Carole (Eugene) Nauman of Dubuque, Gary (Jeanne) of Marion, Rick (Taña) of Dubuque, Sandy (Dr. Joseph) Jenkins of Dubuque, Julie (Joseph) Burkle of Urbandale, Janice Maiers of Dyersville and Sue Ellen (Steve) Claus of Loves Park, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and in-laws, Rosie White, Ruth (Rich) Welch, Elgene Mesch, Lorraine, Catherine and Erna Schmidt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilmer, in 2010; siblings, Ben (Gertie), Frank (Marie), Aloysius (Winifred), Eddie, Lawrence "Chick" (Agnes), Gilbert "Bud," Leo, Marie (Vince) Brown and Helen (Harold) Schmidt; and in-laws, Elmer, Louis and Donald Schmidt.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Assisi Village and Stonehill Care Center for the wonderful care, friendship and personal touches shown to Mom.
