Roughriders fans must follow rules
The Gazette Opinion Staff

My wife and I have been Roughrider season ticket holders for 14 years and even housed players for a few years. We love hockey and want everyone at the games to have fun and enjoy themselves, but not at the expense of anyone's safety or enjoyment.
Some fans are not aware of important safety issues, especially “waiting until play stops before returning to their seat.” This happens at every game. Most people are not aware of how dangerous this can be, not only to themselves, but also to other fans. Every game, pucks come flying off the ice into the crowd and can be traveling at speeds of 80-100 mph. When you're walking down the stairs, you may not see the puck coming at you. Pucks can do serious damage not only to you, but also to the fans you are walking in front of, blocking their view.
I'm sure no one wants to see their child, mother, father or loved one hit by a puck and seriously injured. I am asking all Roughrider fans to wait until play stops before returning to their seat. There is a stop sign on the floor at the top of every aisle asking fans to “Please wait until play stops before returning to your seat.”
Another reason to wait until play stops is consideration for other fans because if you're walking down the stairs, you may be blocking their view and they may miss a goal being scored or other play.
