Loretta Kathryn Volz Schmidt, 88, of Norway, died July 9, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway, with the
Rev. Craig Steimel and Monsignor Tom Zinkula officiating. Burial: St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the parish center.
Loretta was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Norway, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Kathryn Sevening Volz. She graduated from Norway High School in 1943.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Debbi) of Wichita Falls, Texas, and David of Amana; two daughters, Janice (David) Schulte of Norway and Barbara Schmidt of North Liberty; grandchildren, Jodi Schmidt, Bret Schmidt, Karen (Tom) Daubs, Cindy (Marcus) Quaas, Tami Schulte and Ki Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Ethan Boston, Kamdyn Hahn, Olivia Daubs, Morgan Quaas and Savannah Daubs; one sister, Mary (Robert) Zinkula; and sisters-in-law, Alberta Volz and Susan Volz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandchild, Collin Boston; four brothers, Vernon, Clarence, Wilbert and David Volz, two sisters, Lorene Oberreuter and Hazel Stallman; sisters-in-law, Romana Volz Johnson and Lynn Volz; and brothers-in-law, Clem Oberreuter and Leonard Stallman.
Loretta was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, National Catholic Society of Foresters Court 815 and Norway American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Amana from 1993 to 2014. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, baking, crocheting and other craftwork.
