Harold E. "Gene" Miller, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, May 10, 2015, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer at the VA Health Care System, Iowa City. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Chaplain David Brown. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda; children, Troy, Trent, Brad, Janna, Tammy and Shane; brothers, Randy (Marilyn) Miller and Jerry Miller; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his loyal companion, Freddy the cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brother, Larry Vosdingh.
Gene was born on Jan. 6, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Harold and Georgena (Hale) Miller. He was all state in basketball and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965. Gene served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. On June 8, 2012, he married Glenda Taylor in Cedar Rapids. Gene worked for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department for 10 years and later worked in restaurant management. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends but most importantly he loved taking care of his wife, Glenda. Gene was an avid sports lover, following the Hawkeyes and Cubs and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a member of the AMVETS and AMVET Riders.
