Gene Alan Kruckenberg, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, with an hour visitation before the service at the funeral home. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Patty Kruckenberg of Cedar Rapids; sons, Kyle Kruckenberg of Des Moines, Eric (Joan) Kruckenberg of Gaithersburg, Md., Mark (Brooke) Westemeier of Chandler, Ariz., and Matt Westemeier of Urbandale; grandchildren, Tyton Westemeier, Jonah Westemeier, Cameron Westemeier, Rowan Westemeier, Evangeline Kruckenberg and Joseph Kruckenberg; sisters, Linda Yuska of Fishers, Ind., and Pam (Virgil) Vranek of Chelsea; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Duane Yuska.
Gene was born Sept. 29, 1951, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Leon and Arlene (Kavalier) Kruckenberg. He was a graduate of Benton Community High School. On May 9, 1992, Gene and Patty (Sanders) were united in marriage in Cedar Rapids. Gene worked at Whirlpool in Amana for 42 years before retiring in 2014.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Gene enjoyed tailgating at football games and was a football season ticket holder since 1978. He enjoyed golfing and during the winter going to Phoenix with his wife. Gene especially enjoyed going to his grandkids' sporting events and spending time with them.
