Marie Johanna Reinhart, formerly of Norway and Walford, died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Hallmar Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids.
On Jan. 20,1948, she married Dr. Virgil Reinhart at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Dr. Reinhart's uncle, the Rev. Monsignor Frank Schultes, performed the ceremony. Marie and Virgil were married for 59 years. For many of these years, she assisted her husband in his veterinary practice.
Marie was very proud of her Czech heritage and was a member of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in Cedar Rapids, where she served as a docent. She also was a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer in the remedial reading program at Prairie View Elementary School and a volunteer for many years at the Green Square kitchen.
Her hobbies included Tole painting, embroidery and painting seasonal ceramics for her family. She was known for her excellent culinary skills and enjoyed entertaining friends and family in her home. She was a devout Catholic and prayed many novenas on behalf of others. But it was her large family that gave her the greatest happiness and every new member was welcomed with open arms.
Marie leaves behind and will be greatly missed by her children: Renee (James) Phelps of Bloomington, Minn., Claudia (Donald) Durow of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Carole) Reinhart of Sun City, Ariz., Jane Sankot (Albert) Sankot of Fairfax, Neil (Barbara) Reinhart of Atkins, Ralph (Anne) Reinhart of Norway, Celeste (Dr. Tony) Oreskovich of Pueblo, Colo., and Elizabeth (Christopher) Ryan of Raleigh, N.C.; as well as 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Grandchildren include: Adrienne Phelps Coco, Angela Pernicone Charipar, Katie Pernicone Bizarro, Dr. Jason Reinhart, Heather Reinhart Walker, Emily Sankot Kayrish, Megan Sankot Dutko, Matthew Reinhart, Rachel and Jonathan Reinhart, Hannah, Jakob and Olivia Oreskovich and Nathaniel, Sophia, and Christian Ryan. A brother, John Kuncl of Florida, and a special cousin, Rose Brady of Cedar Rapids, also survive her.
Her husband, parents, four sisters, a brother and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
Father Craig Steimel will preside over a Mass of Resurrection on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway. Visitation will be at St. Michael's Church Parish Center from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. A luncheon will be served after the funeral Mass, followed by interment at St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, St. Michael's Church or to the donor's chosen charity.
Brosh Funeral Service of Norway is serving the family.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hallmar for the excellent care she received the last few years.
