Menar K. Hahn, 91, known to many of you as “Bud Hahn the KCRG-TV9 weather spotter,” left this life for a better place on Jan. 3, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa. Pastor Bill Nielsen will officiate at the service. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Hahn; and brothers, Dean and Glen Hahn. Bud is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Patricia (Grady) Warmack, Tampa, Fla., and Mary (Dale) Flecksing, Cedar Rapids; son, David (Shelly), Coto de Caza, Calif.; four grandchildren, Lauren and Colby Hahn and Cody and Tonya Boots; brother, Forest Hahn; sister, Harriet Hahn; and sisters-in-law, Marge (Leslie) Stansberry and Verna Hahn.

Bud was born Jan. 21, 1921, on a farm near Preston, Minn., to Thomas and Alice Hahn. He graduated from Preston High School and joined FDR's Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1942, he joined the United States Coast Guard and served aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham, where he saw action in the Atlantic Ocean while on convoy duty. Bud was later transferred to Attu Island in the Alaskan Aleutian island chain.

After his military service, Bud went to work for the Civil Aeronautics Administration and was transferred back to Alaska. As fate would have it, while in Alaska he became acquainted with Judy Hahn, a schoolteacher in Decorah, Iowa. Bud and Judy fell in love and were married in 1951. In 1952, they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Bud joined Collins Radio Co. as a radio technician. Bud was with the company for 31 years until his retirement in 1983.

While in Cedar Rapids, Bud and Judy were blessed with three healthy children, Patricia, David and Mary. In 1959, they built a house in the small town of Anamosa, which they have called home for the last 53 years. They enjoyed the outdoors, camping, building and maintaining bluebird houses, gardening, traveling and volunteering.

Bud's defining quality was his unwavering faith in God. Bud and Judy were faithful Christians and active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa. Upon retirement, Bud trained to be a chaplain to minister to those in need. He served hospitals and care centers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Anamosa.
