Leone McCauley Gray, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at Cottage Grove Place. Visitation will be Wednes-day, Nov. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, Nov. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Leone is remembered by her childrenm Karen Pfeiler, Kirk (Cathy) and Patricia (Greg) Freeman; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Leone was born July 25, 1919, in West Union, Iowa, to Ray and Florence McCauley. She married Wilber (Scotty) Gray on March 30, 1940, at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage with many "discussions" along the way.
Leone graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo and spent 14 years of her career at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.
Leone was a charter member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Waterloo and an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed an active life of traveling, dancing, quilting and spending time with her family. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leone was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Edwin; son-in-law, Donald Pfeiler; and her special friend and companion, Dave Hodgin.
Leone's family would like to thank the Cottage Grove staff, caretakers and hospice for their wonderful care, concern and attentiveness. She was richly blessed.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
