ARLEN HOLCOMB Monticello Arlen Holcomb, 82, died Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Anamosa Care Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 15, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, where friends may call from 3:30 p.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Katie Lowe Lancaster will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army at the church. Interment will be in the Norwich Cemetery, Martelle. Surviving is his wife, Marilyn; two children, Julie (Ken) Von Munster, Anamosa, and their children, Erin, Nick and Katlyn; and Greg (Janet) Holcomb, Martelle, and their children, Amy, Andy and Adam; six great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Homewood of Aurora, Colo., and her children, Blake and Grace; and Heather (Brian) Hodges of Sammamish, Wash., and their children, Hunter, Haiden, Bryson and Brady; a stepson-in-law, Kirk Brunscheen, Cedar Rapids, and his children, Kirk Jr., Cedric and Logan; and his sister, Anne Svoboda, Centerville, Ohio. Arlen was preceded in death by his parents; two stepchildren, Lori Brunscheen and Matt Dunkel; and a brother-in-law, Nick Svoboda. Arlen Lee Holcomb was born June 22, 1933, in Mount Vernon, Iowa. He was the son of Lawrence and Ethel Richardson Holcomb. He graduated from the Martelle Consolidated High School in 1951. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. In 1956, he returned to farm near Martelle. Arlen and Marilyn Nost Dunkel were married in 1987 in Cedar Rapids. The couple made their home in Martelle until recently moving to Anamosa. Arlen loved farming. He loved the land, the growing of crops and livestock and the rural lifestyle. Arlen was active in the Martelle community and various organizations, especially being a care-taker at the Norwich Cemetery. He took great pride in his community and willingly offered his time to help others. Arlen always had a smile and a warm welcome for everyone.
