CATHRYN ROBERTS
Cedar Rapids
Cathryn L. "Cathy" Roberts, 94, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Delhi, died from pneumonia and complications at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz., on June 23, 2015.
Cathy chose to be cremated. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Lowe Park, 4500 10th St., Marion.
Cathryn was born Oct. 10, 1920, to Elmer and Ollie Hutchings in Cameron, Mo. She graduated from Cameron High School in 1938, and then moved to Cedar Rapids to work with an aunt in a drugstore, where she met Ward Swift. They were married June 28, 1940.
Cathy worked for Bakers shoes and later for Barkers Shoes in downtown Cedar Rapids. She also worked at Graham Equipment & Hanstrom-Hubly Tractor Co. in Marion as a secretary and bookkeeper until her retirement in 1985.
She enjoyed flower gardening, music, cooking and bird watching and was an avid sports fan.
After Ward Swift's death, she married again, to Dean Roberts. They lived at Lake Delhi and enjoyed entertaining family and friends there. Dean was in the Shrine Color Guard and they traveled nationwide in their motor home to attend events. Cathy was a big Iowa Hawkeyes fan and they took many groups in their motor home to University of Iowa football games in Iowa City.
After retirement they moved to Mesa, Ariz. They both lived long lives in Arizona and grew to love Arizona weather and the desert scenery.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by two daughters, Cheryle Mitchell (Bill) of Mesa and Linda Stephen Welsch (Bob) of Waverly; three grandchildren, Brett Mitchell (Shari) of Robins, Michelle Stephen Ellison (Vaughn) of Delhi and Greg Stephen of Delhi; eight great-grandchildren; and Dean's daughter, Gail Tisdale (Kirt) of Goodyear, Ariz., and their daughters, Tiffany, Brea and Kelsea.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Levon; both of her husbands; a grandson, Brad Stephen; and many aunts and uncles.
