Patterson, Russell W.
Russell W. Patterson, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, after a short illness at Silver Pines Assisted Living Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor David Dyrland. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.
Survivors include his son, Patrick (Diane) Patterson of Ely; grandchildren, Traci (Jim) Kalagian, Michelle Patterson (Dan Rau), Jodi (Chris) Houser and Julie (William) Redmond; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Verne Marble of Edina, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Patterson of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Patterson of Kirksville, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline; parents; infant daughter, Patsy Patterson; son, Larry Patterson; brother, Alva Patterson; sister, Maurita (Albert) Phillips; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Marble.
Russell was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Brashear, Mo., son of Orville and Ora (Lowe) Patterson. He attended school in Missouri while helping his family out on the farm. On Sept. 27, 1941, he married Madeline R. Small in Brashear. Russell served in the United States Army as a guard for the 181st Artillery Division in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He worked at Wilson Foods for 27 years. Russell enjoyed playing pinochle, wood working and eating out with friends.
He was a loving and gracious husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
