Kleinmeyer, Neil R.
Neil R. Kleinmeyer, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, in his home following a brief illness. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Phillip E. Thompson. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a vigil service at 6 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; his children, Mickey (Bob) Lowe, Danny (Teresa) Kleinmeyer, of Cedar Rapids, Janette (Mike) Azevedo and Renee (Chub) Harms, of Atkins; six grandchildren, Travis and Tate Lowe, Jennifer, Shane and Austin Kleinmeyer and Kyle Beyer; a brother, Jim (Erica) Kleinmeyer of Cedar Falls; and his Maltese, Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lavona Donohoe.
Neil was born July 6, 1936, the son of Arnold and Luella (McShane) Kleinmeyer, in Williamsburg. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. On Feb. 11, 1961, Neil was united in marriage to Karen Glynn at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He retired from Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric after 32 years.
Neil was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Eagles Area #2272, American Legion #0671, Elks BPOE #251, Moose Lodge #304 and a life member of AMVETS Post 49 and VFW #788.
