Mary Gertrude Lowe, 82,
of Marion, died Friday,
Dec. 14, 2018, at the Hiawatha Care Center following a long illness. Funeral Mass:
10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, the by Rev. David O'Conner. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday at Teahen
Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family following the vigil until
7 p.m., and on Tuesday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Mary is survived by her son, David; and daughter, Sheryl, both of Marion; her brothers, George Aldrich (Sharon Noe) and William "Bill" (Sandy) Aldrich, both of Brandon; her sisters, Joyce Downing (Joe Geier) of Cedar Rapids and Helen Barske of Independence; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Little Man.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George "Bud," in 1997; and her granddaughter, Amy, in 2000.
Mary was born on April 19, 1936, in Tama, daughter of Bernard and Bernadette Powell Aldrich. She graduated from Brandon High School and married George "Bud" Lowe on Sept. 9, 1957, in Independence. Mary was a food service manager for 25 years and then a school bus special needs aide for the Linn-Mar Community School District for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Marion American Legion Post 989 Ladies Auxiliary.
Mary enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes, bowling and camping. She loved spending time with her family, her friends and her dogs.
