Carson, Evelyn M.
Evelyn M. Carson, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Alburnett, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Graveside Service: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Allan) Neustel of Neosho, Mo., James (Judy) Carson of Indianapolis, Kathryne (Frank) Neustel of Central City and Nancy Carson of Marion; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Carson, Tracie (Matthew) Abbott, Matthew (Pamela) Neustel, Joshua (Rebecca) Carson and Molly Carson; eight great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Taylor Neustel, Jacob and Joseph Carson, Jackson Carson and Kristin Francy, and Mason and Brodie Abbott; and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 58 years, Leland; a son, Michael Carson; and a sister, Betty Lou Nelson.
Evelyn was born March 23, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Robert W. and Ellen (Moss) Comreid. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1944. On Jan. 17, 1947, she married Leland H. Carson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for 25 years in the Marion and Central City area. She was a longtime member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church and a charter member of its United Methodist Women. More recently, she was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
First and foremost, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Evelyn also enjoyed doing crafts, oil panting, ceramics and was a published poet.
