Ray was born Nov. 2, 1933, in Iowa City, the son of William and Bessie (Wildman) Croy. Moving to the Coralville area in 1953, Ray married Shirley Henry in April 1960 in North Liberty. Ray worked as a custodian for the University of Iowa for many years and retired in 2001. Ray served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Upon returning stateside, he enlisted in the Army Reserves. Rightfully so, Ray was proud of his military service.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in the yard and taking walks. Ray liked to listen to country music, watch John Wayne movies and attend movies on the silver screen. He very much enjoyed visiting family in California, where he could also fish in the High Sierras.
Ray is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons, Dan Croy of Ontario, Calif., and Todd Croy (Dawn) of Mirloma, Calif.; daughters, Tina Croy of Coralville and Denise Denison of Coralville; grandchildren, Tori, Jacob, Mackenzie and Kierstyn; and brothers, Wayne Croy (Betty) of Solon and Paul Croy (Shirley) of Cedar Rapids.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold, William, Leo, Gene and Ted; and a sister, Dorothy Croy.
