Haman, Dorothy
Dorothy Haman, 84, of Oxford, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford, with the Rev. Edmond Dunn officiating. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church in Oxford, with a parish vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Oxford.
Dorothy was born March 24, 1926, in Tiffin, the daughter of Manley and Geneva (Potter) Springmire. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1944 and married George Haman Jr. on Nov. 8, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church in Oxford and worked at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 19 years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family extends their appreciation to Mercy Hospice and Iowa City Hospice for the care and support they provided.
Survivors include her children, Ann Mara (Jim) of San Diego, Calif., Janet Haman of Oxford and Thomas (Marlene) Haman of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Brian Mara, Jeny (Victor) Parra, Amy (Curtis) Helfers, Kristina (Henrik) Hansen, Melissa (Christopher) Kollasch and Scott (Leah) Haman; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Ann (Richard) Yenter of Arizona City, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Monica Krall of Solon and Alice (Robert) Walter of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband, George, who passed away May 16, 2010.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford or Mercy Hospice.
