Gail Maddox, 54, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Gospel Tabernacle Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.

Gail leaves behind her beloved significant other of 18 years, Paul Tillman; special nieces, Ericia Williams and Mackenzie Maddox; sister-in-law, Kathy Maddox; aunts, Gwendora Williams, Beulah (Keith) Brown, Althea (Wayne) Motley, Mary (Edward) Harris and Carolyn (Edward) Mohn; uncles, Donald Williams, Darell (Arlethia) Williams and Willie B. (Thelma) Williams; a plethora of special cousins; many close friends; and loving kids in the community who knew her as Ms. Gail.

Gail was born May 3, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, to Thomas and Aleatha (Williams) Maddox. She attended Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and Hamilton Business College, graduating with a criminal justice degree. A matriarch of bettering the lives of kids, she worked many years as a counselor, coach and juvenile justice mediator. She worked for To the Rescue, Jane Boyd House, Metro High School, Summer Youth Coalition, McKinley Middle School and, most recently, Four Oaks. She was an all-around wonder woman. Gail was a humble person but was greatly appreciated for the work she did with local kids, who frequently approached her around town to thank her and share their stories.

She enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, Paul's cooking, and traveling to visit family, especially many trips taken to Tennessee.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James "Chicken;" and aunt, Dennia.

A memorial fund has been established at Dupaco Credit Union under the Gail Maddox Benefit Fund.
