Marlene Zumbach, 83, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at Bickford Senior Living in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Peace Lutheran Church, Ryan, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Roger McKinstry will officiate at the services. Surviving are four children, Diane Zumbach, Coralville, Larry (Rosemarie) Zumbach, Farmington, Minn., Loren (Susan) Zumbach, Coggon, and Lyle (Dianna) Zumbach, Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Maren (David Greening) Cuykendall, Tawny (Stavros Nikolaou) Cuykendall and Shannon (Ethan Soutar-Rau) Cuykendall, Laura Zumbach, Lisa Zumbach, Jennifer (Matt) Tyson, Brett Zumbach, Gretchen (Nick) Mundorf and Ingrid (Jon) Glessner; nine great-grandchildren, Rory and Boyse Mundorf, Luke, Ashley, Daniel and Catherine Tyson, Mae and Myles Glessner and Rio Cuykendall; five siblings, Robert (Sue) Garner, Coggon, Faye (Jerry) Matteson, Hudson, Wis., Dwight (Becky) Garner, Coggon, Darla (Harvey) Fagenbaum, Sumner, and Daniel (Ena) Garner, Anamosa; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Sather, Princeton, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laverne; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Tyson; and her sister, Phyllis Sather.
Marlene Garner was born June 7, 1933, at Coggon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Raymond and Vivian Aldrich Garner. Marlene graduated from the Coggon High School in 1950. Marlene Rose Garner and Laverne J. Zumbach were married Dec. 10, 1950, at the United Methodist Church, Coggon. The couple farmed in the Ryan and Coggon area until 1979, when they moved to a farm near Monticello. Laverne preceded her in death on June 2, 2012. Marlene had been a resident at Bickford for the past three years.
Marlene was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where she had taught Sunday school and was a member of WELCA. As a child, she had attended the Golden Church near Ryan. She also belonged to the Merry Makers Club.
Marlene enjoyed her outdoor flowers, crafts, cross stitching, sewing and quilting. She sewed and quilted many gifts for grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family and friends. She especially enjoyed time with her family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bickford Senior Living for the wonderful care given to our mother.
