Reade, Joan
Joan Reade, 80, of Monticello, died peacefully Monday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11 Friday morning, Sept. 10, at First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. today at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Surviving are her four children, John of Las Vegas, Nev., Jan (Bob) Null and Jill (Rex) Cheney, both of Monticello, and Julie (Tom) Dunne, Cascade; three grandchildren, Jerry (Melody) Pasker, Matt (Kelly) Pasker and Sarah Pasker; five great-grandchildren, Gary, Brendan, Cameron, Jaret and Jacie; three foster great-grandchildren; a foreign exchange granddaughter, Eva Garrappa of Argentina; three sisters, Ruth Lahey, Mary Lou Rickels and June Reiter, all of Monticello; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry, in August 2009; three sisters, Lenore Waldron, Wilma Fitzsimmons and Jean Schemmel; and two infant siblings, Margaret and Robert.
Joan Hein was born June 12, 1930, in Richland Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was a triplet to her sisters, June and Jean, and the daughter of John and Margaret Allen Hein. Joan received her early education in the rural schools of Richland Township. She graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1948. Joan Hein and Harry Reade were married Oct. 3, 1950, at Waverly, Iowa. The couple made their home in Monticello. Joan was employed for many years at Heights Supper Club.
Joan was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served on the Session, was a Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls and a Rainbow Mom and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary No. 4466. Joan was an avid Cubs fan; she enjoyed bowling, playing golf and her many trips to Las Vegas. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially time with her grandchildren.
