Hiner, Pearl E.
Pearl E. Hiner, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Meth-Wick Community-Woodlands following a long illness. Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Hills Community Church by Dr. Leonard Ranson. Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia with graveside services starting at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday at Cedar Hills Community Church after 2 p.m. until the time of service. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Survivors include his daughters, Barbara (Dave) Poggenklass of Guttenberg, Cheryl (Kal) Huck of Arvada, Colo., Rebecca (Kevin) Kirkwood of Grimes, Susan (Rick Tymann) Ayala of Palm Bay, Fla., and Diana Mosser of Waterloo; grandchildren, Mike (Kirsten), Dan (Megan) and Robert Poggenklass, Chelsea and Adam Huck, Rodney (Andrea), Ryan (Billie) Ayala, Kristy and Chris Tymann and Patrick Mosser; great-grandchildren Anya, Evan, Eva, Isabelle and Oliver Poggenklass and Jasmine; sister, Geraldine Schaffner of O'Fallon, Ill.; sister-in-law, Phyllis Hiner of Rock Island, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; and brothers, John and Max.
Pearl Eugene Hiner was born Aug. 31, 1926 in Appanoose, County, the son of John Lewis and Ruby Esther (Foster) Hiner. He married Mildred Maxine Moore on Aug. 11, 1947, in Centerville. Pearl started teaching school in rural Moravia at age 16 and went on to open his own TV repair shop. He eventually worked at Rockwell Collins for 30 years, retiring in 1988 and was in the Cedar Rapids community for over 65 years. Pearl was a long time member of Cedar Hills Community Church. He was an avid Hawkeye basketball and football fan and Jefferson sports enthusiast. Above all, Pearl will be remembered as a great provider for his wife and girls. He has stayed the course and fought the good fight.
