Sims Sr., Marvin L.
Marvin L. Sims Sr., 66, died Friday, April 2, 2010. A celebration of Marvin's life will be held Saturday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at Bella Sala, 3232 Jasper Ave. NW, Tiffin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marvin Sims Memorial Fund.
Marvin was born Dec. 11, 1943, to Marvin E.A. and Lucille Petty Sims in Sedalia, Mo. Marvin was a sports therapist in the Department of Sports Medicine at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He specialized in counseling for student athletes.
Marvin graduated from Hubbard High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force as an air traffic control operator from 1961-1967. He moved to Iowa City in 1972 and received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in social work (MSW) from the University of Iowa. Marvin was licensed by the Iowa Board of Substance Abuse Certification (IBSAC) and the Iowa Board of Social Work Examiners. He also had an independent practice as a psychotherapist.
Marvin will always be loved and remembered by his children: Aaron Sims (Sheila) of Whitsett, N.C., LeAnne Polk of Rockford, Ill., Marvin Sims Jr. (Cammie) of Liberty Township, Ohio, Twilla Hicks (David) of Mendota Heights, Minn., Forteasha London of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mica Anders of Iowa City; eight grandchildren; brothers, Eugene “E.T.” Sims (Willene), Matt Sims (Grace), Herman Sims and Jessie Sims; sisters, Carrie Sims-Brown and Nancy Sims-Van Buren (Don), both of Sedalia, Mo., Dorothy Mitchell (Robert) of Kingsport, Tenn., and Dale Regina Boggs (Dale P) of Columbia, Mo.; one aunt, Delores Foster of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Frank Williams Jr.
