Charles Edward "Chuck" Hard, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Valley View Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Phil Foster. A graveside service with military honors will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in the Garden of the Last Supper.
Chuck was born May 29, 1934, in Amery, Wis., to Ray C. and Bernice (Duncan) Hard. He attended school in Turtle Lake, Wis., and later graduated from electrician trade school. Chuck served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He was united in marriage to Cynthia Ellen "Cindy" Kepler on Feb. 24, 1968, in Shellsburg.
Chuck worked as an electrical foreman for Farmstead Foods from 1955 until his retirement in 1993.
He was an outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed fishing and gardening. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cindy; three children, Wayne (Jean) Hard of Cedar Rapids, Tonja (Steve) Miner of Anamosa and Brian (Rachel) Hard of Springville; grandson by blood, son by love, Mark (Ashley) Luzinski of Springville; 12 grand-children; six great-grandchildren and two expected. Also surviving are three siblings, Robert (Ruth) Hard of Wisconsin, Julie (Ernie) Ohlhauser of Cedar Rapids and Mary Kay (John) Wickman of Muckersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronnie, Jimmy and Ray Hard; and sister, Rosie Cassavant.
