Edward J. Hartman, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Jan. 31, 2015, at Cottage Grove Place, where he had resided for almost 10 years. A private family service will be at a later date.
Ed was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the Univers-ity of Iowa. He served our country as an officer in the U.S. Navy. After a brief position with the Depart-ment of Justice in New York, he returned to Iowa. He worked for the Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman law firm and then joined Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric. He worked in both Cedar Rapids and Davenport in varying positions, eventually accepting the role of vice president and general counsel for the company. He also taught as an adjunct professor in the MBA program at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, a position he continued for 10 years after he retired.
Ed is survived by two sons, Roger (Suzanne) of Scaly, N.C., and Tim (Jeanie) of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Roger Jr. (Mary) of Rome, Ga., and Sandra Hartman (Ron Bose) of St. Louis, Mo.; five great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Ruth Bickel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and a sister.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Cottage Grove Place for the wonderful care he received.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ed's honor.
