Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church. Private burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, before service. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Rev. Dave Hohman will officiate.
Survivors include her husband, Paul; her daughters, Sherri Knight Bierman and husband Richard of Marion, and Christine Ann Solis of Marion; a brother, David Holloway of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Sandra Christensen and husband Eugene of Elberon; eight brothers-in-law, Gene (Paula) Knight, Glen (Dotti) Knight, Dean (Susanne) Knight, Mike (Kathy) Knight, Pat (Diana) Knight, Daniel (Vicky) Knight, Dennis Knight and Timothy Knight; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and LaVera Peters Holloway; stepfather, Nial Dicken; and two sisters-in-law, Carleta Holloway and Diana Knight.
Kay Lorraine Knight was born on Jan. 13, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa. She was the youngest of three children born to the proud parents of LaVera and Harold Holloway. Her siblings, David Holloway and Sandra Christensen, continue to reside in Iowa. Kay received a formal education in the Cedar Rapids School District, graduating from Washington High School in 1963.
Kay worked for Dr. C.S. Foster as an orthodontist for several years. She met Paul Knight, the love of her life in 1963. They were married on July 3, 1965, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Paul and Kay started a family in 1967, with the birth of their daughter Sherri Kay Knight. Christine Ann Knight was born three years later in 1970. Kay was a devoted stay-at-home mother for many years, until the girls were older. She then went to work at Franklin Middle School for 17 years as a cashier, retiring in 2005.
There were many things Kay was passionate about. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling and her home away from home, the cabin on the Wapsi. Many nights were spent sitting out by the fire among friends and family laughing and enjoying life. Kay's six grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved getting the whole family together and would beam with pride. Kay also had two beloved “furry” children at home whom she loved with all her heart, the family cats, Smoky and Bandi Sue.
Kay considered many of her friends to be more like family. She gave unconditional love and support to all in her path, taking care of anyone in need, capturing the hearts of many. She was a member of First Congregational Church for 44 years, and life member of the V.F.W. Post 788.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mercy Medical Center and Dr. Chirantan Ghosh for the loving care they gave Kay.
