Michael Bruce Smothers, The Boogie Man, died in his home Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, in Cedar Rapids.
Michael was born Dec. 16, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mike was a man with a big heart and was willing to help anyone. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He loved working in his garden and finding projects to work on. He also loved throwing down in the kitchen.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Strait-Smothers; children, Joshua, Seth, Michael, Breanna and Chelsee (Trent); and grandchildren, Noah, Valanee and Carson; as well as siblings, Sue Smothers, Dotti (Tim) Tracy and Sam (Ruby) Smothers; and mother-in-law, Rae Strait.
Also surviving are several close friends; eight nephews and nieces; and his favorite aunts, Shirley McCoy and Mary Pelts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lily Phillips; brother, Robert Smothers; father-in-law, Don Strait; and one nephew.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at First Church of the Open Bible, 1911 E Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids. Following the services, a lunch will be held at Tornados Bar and Grill, 1400 Third St. SE, Cedar Rapids.
