Joe Yegge will miss Prairie's next two playing dates

Jun. 20, 2016 3:42 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS — Prairie High School softball coach Joe Yegge faces a two-date suspension after being ejected from a game Saturday at State Center, The Gazette has learned.
Joel Oswald, assistant director of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, said he could not comment on the matter since the sanctions are handled internally at Prairie, but said the two-date punishment is 'accurate.'
Prairie athletics director Rocky Bennett could not be reached for comment. Prairie's next two playing dates are Tuesday (home against Waterloo West) and Thursday (at Iowa City High).
Yegge was ejected during a 6-5 extra-inning loss to Newton on Saturday. He was tossed twice during the 2013 season, with the second ejection carrying a four-date penalty.
Also the head coach at Kirkwood Community College, Yegge owns a 97-54 record in four years at Prairie, including a 2013 state-tournament berth. He will be credited with wins and losses during his absence, so it's quite possible he will miss his 100th win at Prairie.
The Hawks are 16-12 this season.
