Jack (John) Wayne Snetzler died of natural causes on Saturday, June 25, 2016. His body has been donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a future date this summer.
Survivors include his longtime partner, Mary Ralston of Cedar Rapids; his daughters, Suzi Soukup (John Soukup) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Amy Casillas (Adam Casillas) of Escondido, Calif.; his grandchildren, Ciela and Shea Soukup and Riley Casillas; his sister-in-law, Nancy Snetzler; his nephew, Joel Snetzler; and other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim Snetzler; and grandson, Carter Casillas.
Jack was born Jan. 22, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, to John and Hazel (Espe) Snetzler. He spent his life in the city he loved. He was married to Carol (Fry) Snetzler for 16 years. They had two daughters. His lifelong career in the hardware industry began at the age of 15, working for his father at Harper & McIntire in Cedar Rapids. He continued to work as a salesman and sales manager into his late 70s at various companies including F.O.K, Witte Hardware, and finally, Orgill, Inc.
Jack was a talented artist who enjoyed sketching, oil painting and creating decoupage. He frequently vacationed at Lake Okoboji with family and friends, never missing an opportunity to worship the sun. He also was an aficionado of classic cars and trains. Jack spent many a Friday night with a bourbon and soda in hand at one of Cedar Rapids' many fine establishments.
He was known among friends and family for his permanent suntan, constant sunglasses and shiny cars. His optimistic nature and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
