Diane "Q" Geiger, 73, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014.
Q was born Sept. 16, 1940, to William B. and Elnora H. (Beerkamp) Quarton. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and attended Washington High School. Q went on to study at Stephens College in Missouri before returning to Iowa, where she completed her education at the University of Iowa, where she participated in the Writers' Workshop.
She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority when she met and married Waldo F. Geiger Jr. on Dec. 20, 1962. In September 1966, they established residency in Des Moines.
Q was a dedicated mom of two boys, Toby A. and Anthony "Tad" B. Geiger, while she took on many roles at the Des Moines Art Center Museum Shop. She continued to fulfill her passion by supporting many Iowa artists through Art in the Park and The Artist Gallery in Valley Junction.
Q also worked as a secretary for her husband's company, Data Business Equipment.
She was a member of the Junior League of Des Moines and HD Art Club. Q was known for being an avid dog lover and University of Iowa athletics fan. Q had a great passion for the arts, reading, walking, needlepoint and handbags.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 25, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Iles Dunn's Chapel, 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines, (515) 244-2121. A memorial service to celebrate Q's life and legacy will be Tuesday, Aug. 26, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Wakonda Club, located at 3915 Fleur Dr., Des Moines, (515) 285-4962. A reception and luncheon will be immediately held following the service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William B. and Elnora H. Quarton; her in-laws, Waldo F. and Marie G. Geiger; and her six four-legged furry children.
Q will be greatly missed by her husband of 51 years, Wally Geiger; her children, Toby (Stephanie) Geiger, Tad (Nikki) Geiger and Dolly (golden retriever); grandchildren, Annie Diener, Will Geiger, Sam Diener, Zach Geiger and Max Diener; brother-in-law, Tony (Sherry) Geiger; nephew, Kyle Geiger; and numerous dear friends.
A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Thomas Buroker, Dr. Gregory Hicklin, Pat McDonald, PAC, Dr. Deanna Questad and the team of wonderful staff at John Stoddard Cancer Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines.
