Hollingsworth, Arthur R.
Arthur R. Hollingsworth, 93, of ABCM Rehabilitation Centers in Independence, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died there Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, after a long illness. Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Troy Mills Christian Church where friends may call after 10 a.m. The Rev. Bob Solon and the Rev. Jamie Wolf will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include friends, Loren and Virginia Staton of Walker and Jim and Faith Lee of Iowa City. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, William, Newton and Robert; and one sister, Genevieve Huffman.
Art was born March 1, 1920, in Jones County, the son of Oscar and Golda Hayes Hollingsworth. He married Beverly J. Williams on Sept. 17, 1957, in Marshalltown. Bev died in 1995. Art raised two children and his life was rich with grandchildren. He worked at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown for 15 years and later was a laborer and worked through Laborers Union #43 for over 20 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Hope Wesleyan Church in Independence and the Laborers Union.
Art enjoyed all sports and was an avid and life long Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed camping, car rides and family get-togethers. He loved people and was a very caring and generous person to everyone. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
