Arthur "Art" Wentzel, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. His wishes were to be cremated; a celebration of life will be at a later date. Arrangements made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Virginia; children, Dawn (Joe) Zamastil, Kim Barger, Lorrie (Keith) Myers and Allen (Lil) Wentzel; one brother, Harvey Wentzel and Darlene; grand-children, Mike (Niki), Chris (Sean), Eric (Tessa), Bric (Lindsay),
Whitney (Patrick), Cody, Doug, Kristina and Troy; and one great-granddaughter, Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wayne; son-in-law, Mark Barger; four brothers; and four sisters.
Art was born Sept. 18, 1933, in Pipestone, Minn., son of Charles and Gertrude "Gertie" (Hawbecker) Wentzel. Art served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Virginia Medema. Art retired from plastering at the age of 78.
Art enjoyed hanging out with family and friends, also listening to country music and dancing. He loved the
outdoors, gardening, camping and fishing. Art especially loved spending time in his shed. Art's work took the couple on many travels, including Galesville, Wis., where they owned Art and Ginny's Bar. They later moved back to Cedar Rapids.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the compassionate care they showed them and Art.
