Waste of resources to demolish Westdale Mall
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 27, 2014 11:45 am
Have we learned from history? In the 1960s and 1970s, Lindale Plaza had stand-alone stores and was proud to transition to a shopping mall that provided cover from the Midwest weather. Shoppers were most pleased to not have to dash between stores in the snow, wind, sleet and rain.
Now 40 years later, Westdale Mall is slated to be demolished. Surely, the necessary repairs from years of neglect could have been made for much less money than to raze the current building and construct new structures. Given the winters we've had recently, who wants to brave the elements to go from one store to another?
The demolition of Westdale Mall: What a crying shame. What a waste!
