Rosalie Dawson, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2019.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with a visitation beginning an hour prior. Bishop Cymaron Dawson of Living Waters Kingdom Church will be the officiant. The burial will directly follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery at 3 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cedar Memorial.
Rosalie Howard was born in Milan, Tenn., on July 6, 1929. She lived in Tennessee until the age of 17, before moving to Iowa in 1946.
Rosalie was married to Calvin M. Dawson on March 11, 1950; they were married for 31 years until his death in 1981. Together, Rosalie and Calvin raised four children.
Rosalie worked as a laborer for Wilson & Co. for 27 years. Those who knew and loved Rosalie, knew she loved going to the casino, playing bingo, cooking and shopping. She also enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family. Rosalie was a devout Christian and was a former member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Rosalie is survived by all of her children, Deborah Dawson, Marcella Dawson, Michele Dawson and Jeffery Dawson; 10 grandchildren: Armond Dawson, Austin Penn, Shelia Simmons, Rashon Dawson, Lydale Waller, Devante Dawson, Ernest Williams III, LaNeisha Waller, Briana Williams and Andre Dawson; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three siblings: brother, Jhonnie Lee Howard; and sisters, Flora Greer and Barbara Smith. Rosalie also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
Rosalie is preceded in death by both parents, Porter and Ophelia Howard; brothers, Arthur James Howard and James Felix Howard; sisters, Rozellion Lipscomb and Mary Ophelia Elizabeth Williams.
