Morning, Iva Agnes
Iva Agnes Morning, 107, died Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Anamosa Care Center. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Pastor Laurie Riley will officiate at the service. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Chapel Cemetery, rural Morley.
Surviving are her two daughters, Virginia Glick of Anamosa and Catherine Thomsen of Anamosa; sons-in-law, Mike Lasack of Martelle and John Thomsen of Clarence; nine grandchildren, Ray Thomsen, Rita Balichek, Cheryl Glick, Cynthia Hauk, Carrie Lasack, Wayne Lasack, David Morning, Roy Morning and Rose Mentor; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Kenneth Morning and infant Harold Eugene; daughter, Ann Lasack; son-in-law, James Glick; and daughter-in-law, Rosie Morning.
Iva Agnes Miller Morning was born Feb. 7, 1906, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her birth name was Iva Agnes Feil. Her birth father died and she was placed in the Home of the Friendless in Cedar Rapids, where she was adopted by W.L. Miller and wife Daisy (McCleary) Miller who resided in Morley. She became Iva Agnes Miller. She attended schools in Morley and Anamosa, graduating in 1924. She attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids to receive her teaching certificate and began teaching in rural schools for three years. She married Ray Morning in 1927 and taught two more years before retiring to have her family. They lived on a small farm in the Newport/Olin area for 50 years before retiring to Anamosa. Ray died in 1986.
Iva was a 50-year member of the Pythian Sisters, serving as musician for much of the time, and was a past chief. She was a past 4-H leader of Jackson Wise Owls for several years, member of Antioch Social Circle and Methodist Church. She loved to garden, bake and read. Her love of family came first.
