Troester, Darlene
Darlene Troester, 93, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at her home in Guttenberg.
She was born on the island in Guttenberg on March 21, 1920, to Henry and Mary (Putzier) Geuder. Darlene received her education in Guttenberg but had to leave school at a young age to work. On April 16, 1941, she married Charles Leon Troester at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo by Pastor Alexander Meyer. They were then blessed with two sons, Edward and Larry. Darlene worked on the farm alongside her husband in rural Osterdock for many years until moving to Guttenberg in 1976. Darlene was blessed with a green thumb which worked out good for her as she enjoyed working with her flowers and her garden. She was an avid sewer and loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by her two sons, Edward (Donna Bodensteiner) Troester of Marion, and Larry (Lori) Troester of North Platte, Neb.; three grandchildren, Jason (Alicia) Troester, Jamie (Rusty) Bardell and Curt (Bobbi) Troester; six great-grandchildren, Megan, Marisa and Avery Troester, Brandon and Addie Jo Bardell and Ariela Troester; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Roxanne; two sisters, Luise Heil and LaVonne Bahls; and two brothers, Robert in infancy and Bill Madden.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First, Guttenberg, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev.
