Marilyn Clayton, 85, of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at Brooklyn Community Estates. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. She will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn, next to her beloved husband and daughter. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn.

A memorial fund has been established.

There will be a luncheon in the church fellowship hall beginning at noon before the service on Monday.

Marilyn is survived by her children, R.M. "Rusty" (Jeanne) Clayton Jr. of Brooklyn, Gerald W. "Jody" of Brooklyn, James G. Sr. (Sandy) Clayton of Brooklyn, Kathaleen M. (Jim) Snoeberger of Delphi, Ind., Joel Clayton and Sandy Dobson of Brooklyn and Annette M. (Carl) Marshall of Chariton; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet Manatt Pilcher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max; a daughter, Mari Lynn, at birth; and six siblings, Mary Ellen Christen, G.J. "Junie" Manatt, Merlin Manatt, Clair Manatt, Anita Manatt and Judy Sueppel.

Marilyn Ann Manatt was born June 17, 1931, in Grinnell, the daughter of Gerald "G.W." and Margaret Brotherson Manatt. She attended and graduated from Brooklyn Schools. Marilyn was united in marriage to Russell Max Clayton; they were married for 50 wonderful years. They were in love their whole adult life, spending much of their free time living life and making friends. They would always bring food or something to many people in need or who suffered the loss of someone. They enjoyed traveling to Texas in the winter and hanging out with their friends. Marilyn had a passion for collecting -- from Beanie Babies to glassware and jewelry. She loved to cook and bake and would always ask you to stay for the meal she had ready, whether you were family, old friends or strangers who happened by.
