Carol Jean Becker, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. Stasia Fine of New Disciples Christian Church. Burial: Westview Cemetery, La Porte City with a luncheon at the Rusty Pig following the graveside services. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Carol is survived by her husband, Francis "Fritz;" six children, Rod (Kathy) of Davenport and Mark, Brian, Chris (Jeannie), Andrea (Doug) Dukes and Doug (Paula), all of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Don (Sandy) Frericks of Blue Grass, Melvin (Mary Jo) Frericks of Cedar Rapids, Marvin (Dorothy) Frericks of Denver and Irvin (Barbara) of Hesperia, Calif.; sister, Pat (Lee) Teachout of Greenville, Wis.; sister-in-law, CJ Frericks of Springville; close friend, Marsha Marchant; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth VanTomme; a brother, Glen; and granddaughter, Mariah.
Carol was born June 20, 1939, in La Porte City, the daughter of Henry and Mary Benda Frericks. She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1957. Carol married Francis "Fritz" Becker on June 29, 1957, in La Porte City. She retired in 2007 as food service manager at Franklin Middle School after 25 years with the Cedar Rapids Community School District. She had worked previously for Collins Radio Company and the Progress Review newspaper in La Porte City.
Carol loved getting her family together during the summer and for holidays. She enjoyed antiquing, collecting depression dishes and salt and pepper sets.
