Russell L. Stutzman, 82, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, July 1, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where there will be visitation from 10:30 a.m. until services Friday. Burial with military honors will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Russell's memory to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2301 E. Court St., Iowa City, IA 52245. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the funeral home website at www.gayandciha.com.
Russell Lamont Stutzman was born July 15, 1933, in Broken Bow, Neb., the son of Ralph and Elizabeth (Troyer) Stutzman. He married Shirley Mayfield on Aug. 13, 1960, in Kahoka, Mo. For many years, he worked for Iowa Lumber Co., later working for DeWitt Electric, before his retirement. He lived most of his life in the Iowa City area, until moving to be closer to his daughter after the flood of 2008. Russ enjoyed life, loved his family, breakfast at the Corner Cafe with his friends, and of course, the Packers!
His family includes his two children, Dawn Heritage (Edson) of Grimes and Russell "Rusty" Stutzman (Aimee) of Holmen, Wis.; five grandchildren, Whitney Happel (Ryan), Sam Stutzman, Dani Heritage, Doug Heritage and Alex Stutzman; two great-grandchildren, Josie and Jaxson Happel; and his former wife, Shirley Stutzman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Lila Burkett, Lela Stutzman, Delores Marshall, AnnaBelle Stutzman and Kathleen Stutzman; and three brothers, Richard, Alfred "Max" and Ralph Stutzman.
