Lane A. Rigler, 74, of Belle Plaine, formerly of Ottumwa and Cedar Rapids, died at 5:38 p.m. June 26, 2015, peacefully at home with family after a brief bout with cancer.
He was born Aug. 21, 1940, in Ottumwa to Ernst Marvin and Thelma McLaughlin Rigler. He married Doris Annette Hannah on Feb. 10, 1977. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2004.
Lane was always a working man. He worked in construction in Ottumwa with Union Local 566. Lane worked in a shoe repair shop and owned his own shoe repair business. Later in life, he worked with The Gazette newspaper.
Lane enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Lane also enjoyed riding his Harley, working on cars and remodeling homes. He was a handyman and could fix anything.
Surviving are three sons, Tracy Rigler of Seminole, Fla., Stacy Rigler of Luzerne, Iowa, and Lane Rigler of Cedar Rapids; adopted daughter, Shirley Rigler of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; three stepsons, Steve Houk of Ottumwa, Robert (Bobbi Jo) Houk of Ottumwa and Rusty (DeAnna Jo) Houk of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his mother, Thelma Rigler of Ottumwa; and two sisters, Judith DeJong of Oskaloosa and Deleith Bain of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernst Rigler; a stepdaughter, Terri Lynn Roe Pinnex; and a brother, Lyle Rigler.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.
