Sill, Gerald 'Jerry'
Gerald “Jerry” Sill, 69, of Springville, passed away, with his family by his side, on Friday, July 15, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Springville United Methodist Church, by the Rev. John Kiezer. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before the service at the church. Burial: Springville Cemetery. Military honors provided by Springville American Legion Post 331.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnne; his children, Tammie (Gary) Boren, Sherry (LeRoy) Boland, Shelly (Daryl) Pearson and Jerry Jr. (Elyra) Sill; four grandchildren, Haley, Dustin, Megan and Tara; two brothers, Don (Karen) Sill and Jim (Ruth) Mangold; and a sister, Linda (Doug) Keenan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vanita Mangold; and a brother, Rusty Sill.
Jerry was born Jan. 5, 1942, in Manchester, Iowa. He graduated from Coggon High School and married JoAnne Vernon on May 14, 1966, in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Farmstead for 30 years and at D&R Masonry until his retirement. Jerry served in the United States Army and was a member of the 101st Airborne unit. He was also a member of Springville American Legion Post 331.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, and playing cards. He loved spending time with his beloved family and many friends.
