Schmidt, Gertrude A.
Gertrude A. Schmidt, 79, of Coggon, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Coggon Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Russell; children, Douglas (Norma) Schmidt of Coggon, Russilla “Rusty” (Blaine) Holub of Central City, Donald (Valerie) Schmidt of Manchester and Rhonda McElree of Barberton, Ohio; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Zelda (LaVone) Rauch of New Sharon, Dale (Tawny) Butcher of Macomb, Ill., and Randy Butcher of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Pam Butcher of Florida; brother-in-law, Harold Schmidt of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Ferril and Joseph Dean Butcher.
Gertrude was born Nov. 14, 1932, in New Sharon, the daughter of Joseph and Allie (Hicks) Butcher. She graduated from New Sharon High School with the class of 1951. Gertrude married Russell Schmidt on June 24, 1951, in New Sharon. She worked as a dietitian at Willow Gardens in Marion, and the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and sister, who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gertrude's memory.
