James Richard Gowin was born Oct. 11, 1942, in Fulton, Mo., the son of Robert "Bob" and Edith (Humes) Gowin. He graduated from Fulton High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1964 to 1967. Jim was united in marriage to Diann Bogle on Oct. 9, 1967, in Fulton. He worked as a manager for the Landmark and later became the owner and operator of Jim's Water Conditioning, retiring in 2008. Jim enjoyed working on antique clocks, fishing and snowmobiling, but his ultimate passion was spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Williamsburg American Legion. Jim passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Highland Ridge Care Center at the age of 75 years.
He is survived by wife of 50 years, Diann of Williamsburg; two sons, Terry (Sandy) of Acworth, Ga., and Dan (Trisha) of Altoona; four grandchildren, Ali, Austin, Brooke and Paige; a brother, Rusty (Sue) Gowin of Hallsville, Mo.; two sisters, Sharon Gowin (Lynn) and Nita (Sam) Hegazy, all of Fulton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Wayne, in 1987; and a brother, Robby.
A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
